Wageningen University and Research
Wageningen UR is the collaboration between Wageningen University and Wageningen Research (WR), the specialized former research institutes from the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture. This combination of knowledge and experience enables Wageningen UR with its 5,600 staff and more than 8,500 students to contribute actively to solve scientific, social and commercial problems in the field of life sciences and natural resources.
Stichting Wageningen Research (WR) conducts fundamental, application-oriented and applied research on healthy food and living environment in 9 research institutes and a range of expertise centres that work together with other national and international universities, research institutes and companies. WR has a strong network with industrial partners and academia, long-term relationships have generated an excellent track record in plant phenotyping with for instance fast 3D reconstruction of small and large plants in combination with robotics for the integration of automated phenotyping experiments.
The knowledge and experience built up in the past decades in numerous EU, PPP and bilateral projects will be used to strengthen the outcome and impact of this EU Twinning project.
Researchers
Rick van de Zedde
GA member and WP2 Leader
Rick van de Zedde is a senior scientist/ business developer Phenomics and Automation at WUR. His background is in AI with a focus on imaging & robotics. He now leads the construction of Netherlands Plant Eco-phenotyping Centre (NPEC@WUR).
Robert Hall
Professor Robert Hall is Deputy Business Unit Manager Bioscience and Professor of Plant Metabolomics at WUR. His expertise is in the development and application of metabolomics techniques to advance our understanding of crop biochemistry and especially related to quality aspects. Within STARTGATE he shall be coordinating the metabolomics training activities.
Gerrit Polder
Dr Gerrit Polder is a senior scientist Machine Vision and Phenotyping. His expertise is in the development and application of spectral imaging for early disease detection, measuring biochemicals in plants and plant phenotyping in general. With STARGATE is responsible for training and demonstration activities with respect to imaging.
Ernst Woltering
Prof. dr. ing Ernst J. Woltering is senior scientist and Expertise leader Postharvest Physiology at Wageningen Food & Biobased Research and Special Professor at Wageningen University, Chair Physiology and Quality of Fresh Produce.
Ric de Vos
Dr Ric de Vos is Senior Scientist at the Business Unit Bioscience at WUR and is responsible for LCMS-based metabolomics analyses and research into crop and model plant biochemistry and its relationship to plant phenotype.
Roland Mumm
Dr Roland Mumm is Research Scientist at the Business Unit Bioscience at WUR and is responsible for GCMS-based metabolomics analyses and research into crop and model plant biochemistry and its relationship to plant phenotype.
Nicole Kim
Nicole Kim is a native of South Korea. She previously worked in private sector in Korea and China. She’s fluent in English, Chinese, Korean with working proficiency of French and intermediate level of Dutch. She will provide administrative support to the project, communication with partners and the financial department of WR.
